| Star Trek Big Bang Fic: Diamonds, a Club, and a Couple of Hearts |
[Nov. 6th, 2009|10:48 pm] |
Title: Diamonds, a Club, and a Couple of Hearts Author: Flora ( florahart) Artist/Mixer: elanorofcastile Beta(s): Several people have read bits and parts; lauriegilbert has been the most involved culler of commas and shortener of sentences (half of which I defied her about anyway). Series: Reboot/ST XI Characters/Pairings: primary pairing is Kirk/McCoy; however, there is a Kirk/Gaila scene and Spock/Uhura and Pike/Number One are referenced. Rating: NC17 Warnings: mostly just smut (het and slash), AU. Word Count: ~23,500 Summary: Jim Kirk is a hotshot new shortstop in the Constitution League. His team is young, but they have a lot of potential, and oh by the way, the team doctor? Is hot. Notes: Written for startrekbigbang. Baseball AU in which all the characters are human, and the setting is some nonspecific time between now and 2258. Lots of nods to various baseball movies mashed up with lots of moments from/rearrangements of ST XI. Lots of other nods to things from the Trek canon (of any timeframe/reality) and para-canon, such as character names and backgrounds. Concept is inell's fault. Art: here Fanmix: here |

[Nov. 1st, 2009|01:21 pm] |
I didn't carve my Halloween pumpkin this year until the 31st!
This is the original screencap that I chose:
Sebastian from Kuroshitsuji

And this is how the pumpkin came out (unretouched photo!):

| Eventually There Will Be Actual HP Content on My HP Journal... |
[Oct. 31st, 2009|08:48 pm] |
Today is not that day.
I will confess that there are times when I'm quite a slow learner. But I honestly had no idea how much the musical score affects the way I interpret what is happening on the screen. I have to ask those of you who have not been ensorcelled by the pretty that is Merlin, to bear with me. I'd still really like to know what you think. Please compare the two videos below the cut. They're very short.

Drop everything and go read this fic.
I don't care if you hate Harry/Draco. Drop everything and go read this fic.
Blood and Brimstone is the latest offering in hd_career_fair. It's a fusion fic, a melding of the Potterverse with the world of Wicked Gentlemen, and it is phenomenal.
It had me at inventor!Draco.
You don't have to have read Wicked Gentlemen to understand this fic (though if you have, you'll love the side appearances by various WG characters); the author weaves the worlds together seamlessly, explaining what you need to know along the way.
This story goes beyond fanfic. It's a masterful, amazing, incredible tale that reads like something you'd pick up in Barnes & Noble. It's breathtaking. It's gorgeous. It's the kind of story that makes me wish I could write this well and that makes me so grateful that I had an opportunity to read something so beautiful.
If you love a good story, if your idea of an amazing night is curling up on the couch with a novel that captivates you and draws you into an entirely different world, read this fic. You won't be sorry.
It's 42,000 words of utter brilliance.

| It's Good to Try New Things...Usually |

So, it would appear that I have discovered a new embarrassing kink that I really love. I don't even think this kink has a proper name really. I know I have been mentally referring to it as "bestiality lite". These are fics where, for whatever reason, one of the characters thinks and acts like an animal. They still look 100% human (oh, okay, *sometimes* they have animal ears and a tail. DO NOT JUDGE ME) and they generally still manage to speak but in rather abrupt, strangely Tarzan-like phrases - "Pretty mate. Strong mate. Protect" (Stop that! - if you roll your eyes any harder, they will fall out). But because one of the characters thinks they are an animal and the other one wants to change them back to, well, what passes for normal for them, there is typically a lot of the fic devoted to eating, protecting, licking grooming and mating. Can't forget the mating, no siree. Or the wheedling and the gratuitous bondage that seems to crop up in these fics. Do not even ask me about the collars and the punishments for misbehavior and various declarations of ownership and random proprietary outbursts of "mine". *cough*
So, how about everyone else? Spill. Tell me your most embarrassing guilty pleasure kink? The kink you sekritly adore that makes you want to create sock puppet accounts in order to write your own fics or comment on the ones written by others because you really don't want to have other people in fandom immediately think of you upon the mere mention of the kink. OMG, xkcd. You will see the comic but not this funny if you see the comic via feed, so clickety. Probably only funny for today; the main site is a tribute to the closure of Geocities. Heeeeeee!

| Ten drabbles and (very) teenyfics, ST Reboot, ranging from gen to smut. |
[Oct. 25th, 2009|06:36 pm] |
This week at bridge2sickbay we used prompts based on the gag reel which of course none of us have seen because its presence on youtube was contrary to Paramount's wishes. It was apparently a true-drabble-heavy week for me (six of ten are 100 even), and a Spock-heavy week (five feature Spock). Pairings all over the map, though, and some are gen. None are longer than 450 words; each is written in 20 minutes or less. Prompts at the top of each one, and note that the / in this context doesn't particularly imply a pairing, just characters. Sometimes they are pairings.
No real warnings this week, or at least, nothing that's not present in the movie.
( Everything from love letters to desk sex to time travel to a quick visit to Hogwarts )

Hee! Dear author, considering the context, I really think what you meant to say was, in fact, cock-and-bull story. But, you know, considering the type of story it was, I think perhaps "cock-and-ball story" is not only entirely appropriate but really quite spectacularly awesome. ILU. Just sayin'. ♥♥♥ |
